Smoked Salmon "Mummy Wraps"

Ingredients

  • 200g Cold Smoked Salmon Ribbons (Available from Woolworths)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 100g cream cheese
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp fresh dill (chopped)
  • Black sesame seeds or tiny olive slices (for “eyes”)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

Three Streams Smokehouse is proud to partner with Woolworths South Africa in the retail sector, supplying sustainably sourced and responsibly farmed Norwegian Salmon, Rainbow Trout, and a variety of other premium-quality seafood products.

As of 2024, we are honoured to not only supply Woolworths in the Deli, Frozen, and Primal categories but also to have taken over the management and supply of their Fresh Seafood Counters.

This partnership means that Three Streams Smokehouse now proudly supplies an extensive range of seafood products to Woolworths stores across the Western Cape, Gauteng, and KwaZulu-Natal regions.

Method

Preheat oven to 190°C.
In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese, lemon juice, and dill until smooth.
Cut the puff pastry into thin strips (about 1 cm wide).
Lay out small portions of smoked salmon ribbons on a baking sheet.
Spread a little cream cheese mixture on top.
Use the puff pastry strips to loosely wrap the salmon like a mummy, leaving small gaps for “eyes.”
Brush the pastry with egg wash.
Bake for 12–15 minutes until the pastry is puffed and golden.
Once cooled slightly, place two black sesame seeds or olive dots as “eyes.”

Serving Suggestion:

Arrange the little salmon “mummies” on a black slate or dark platter, with sprigs of dill as “creepy moss” and lemon wedges shaped into pumpkin slices.
